Contemporary
Art: Visual Art Exhibition
Hmong visual art plays a major
role in Paj Ntaub Voice. Without visual art, the journal lacks
images of the Hmong which complements the stories.
In
2007, we piloted a Hmong visual art gallery exhibition to showcase the
visual artistic talents in the Hmong community. The exhibition was
called "Throwing Pebbles in the Pond" hosted by Homewood Gallery in
North Minneapolis with Seexeng Lee as curator.
The show attracted
more than 310 people, some from as far away as Washington, D.C. and
Arkansas came to see the exhibition. The show also created a shared
community experience for the patrons and instilled a sense of pride for
some. This is a comment left by one of the guests.

"I
brought my cousins, my friends, anyone I knew in the Twin Cities. This
has to happen more often. It is such a great different and truly
essential exchange of expressions."
