The
Hmong Storytelling Project
For
the Hmong art is a way of life and necessary for life. Almost all Hmong
elders practice one or more art forms.
In this program
area, HArC facilitates and enables younger artists to deepen their
creative work and learning through collaborative projects with elder
artists. HArC also works to document the lives of the elder artists,
their work and influence in the community during their lifetime.
This recording is
important because the Hmong has a long and rich oral-based tradition
which means their art history and library are kept in the minds and
lives of the elder artists. As the elders grow old and die, it becomes
very important to record the elder artists’ knowledge.
